27 TRUE RUNES
In the beginning, there was "darkness."
Then, the "darkness" shed a "tear."
From that "tear," the brothers Sword and Shield were born.
Shield claimed it could defend against any attack.
Sword claimed it could slice through anything.
The brothers began a legendary battle.
At the end, both Sword and Shield shattered.
Sword became the sky, Shield became the earth, and the sparks from the battle became the stars.
As for the jewels, they fell to the ground and became the True Runes--The runes that all other runes were born from.

what differentiates ART and CRAFT ?
the people at singapore origami club was rather pissed ( i can tell from the way they r posting at the mail ) as they were approached by a magazine called craftholic. they havent read neither received the magazine ( which i found in my mailbox one day ) and yet they were almost furious as the editor was indirectly claiming that origami is an art.
in my point of view, before i judge on the matter, i ask myself. what differentiates art and craft ? one distinctive characteristic may be that craft is something which can be mass produced and doesnt take any special skill in doing so. while art is otherwise. well, it is true to a certain extent, but who has ever stated that art requires special talent ? example, marchel ducahmp's fountain. EVERYONE and again, i state EVERYONE can take out an urinal and sign on it. YESS it was that simple and he's the father of readymates now. So, the questions is how come his artwork is called ART and not CRAFT ?
many people will say that : because his artwork has underlying meaning. Again, it is true but to my opinion, is this. How many of us, thought about the idea before ? And how many of us bother to do what he has done now ? His artwork becomes symbolic because he was the 'inventor' of the idea however I am sure that if anyone living would do the same thing as he did ( maybe with a little bit variation, eg. paint the entire urinal blue instead of signing it, that person has created an ART. WHY ? again, relate it to the fact that art often, ( i didnt say ALWAYS ), to contain underlying message.
so i believe in the saying that everyone is an artist. it is just that how we are determined to do so, how we are willing to try hard to be recognized as an artist, how we are lucky enough to be seen as an artist that matter.
since when the word ART is more prestigious than CRAFT ? since when ARTIST is better than CRAFTER ? and since when art works are more valuable than craft works ? all of these restriction are created by us as this misconception is what we believes. i do not blame the society as i did think of that too. but there is no clear definition which makes art and craft different. as long as you believe that your origami is an art, it is. no matter what other thinks.
making art is not something which will make you be in higher status than others. artists are people. i admire artists as they dare and bother to try in various mediums which i may not able to do. i admire them because they remind me of things and issues which are often forgotten. but in the end, artists are still people. in the same equal status as crafters.
i am an artist yet a crafter. origami is an art yet a craft. i make them so that i can evoke certain feelings and deliver my message to my viewers. maybe i can also call it : making art by crafting
ho does it sound ?
